The Early Years
1924
Domingo Zubiaurre, a member of a family of polishers from Eibar, Spain, decided to start manufacturing wire brushes, a product that he knew well from his trade as a polisher for the important local gun industry. His humble beginnings started in a small garage on Arragueta Street until the Spanish Civil War then moved to a different location on Legarre Street. From 1924 to 1957, JAZ’s activity was modest and specialized, dedicating itself exclusively to a single customer: UNCETA, an industrial distributor also located in Eibar, founded in 1874 and specialized in selling tools for the growing industrial market in the area and surrounding towns.
From Crafts to Industrialization
1957
Javier Zubiaurre, son of the founder Domingo Zubiaurre, an engineer trained at the Eibar Armory School, joined the family business and promoted its technical and commercial advancements. During this time the company moved to a new facility on Jardines-Muzategi street. Shortly after the Ullastres Crisis in Spain of 1957 began and forced JAZ to reinvent themselves by seeking new customers and markets for their products. As a result, JAZ experienced growth in business and expanded its workforce and invested in new modern manufacturing equipment.
Internationalization
1970
During the 1970s, our company continued its growth both domestically and internationally. This period marked the beginning of our first overseas expansions in both Germany and the United States. At the same time, we made a significant move to a new facility on Asuarreka Street (Eibar, Spain). The new facility over time grew to 4,000 square meters spread across four floors in a traditional post-war Eibar building layout. In 1996 JAZ obtained the ISO 9000 Quality Assurance certificate, being the second brush company in the world to achieve it.
Expansion
1997
The year 1997 marked a new era for JAZ We constructed a new 7,000 m2 facility in the Azitain Industrial Park (Eibar, Spain) where JAZ still operates today. Since then, we have enhanced our capabilities and developed dramatic improvements in our production processes, modernized our manufacturing equipment, and innovated our products. As a result, JAZ obtained multiple international patents and has been recognized in the market by receiving awards for technical innovations in the industry.
JAZ USA
1999
In 1999 we established and incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary in North America, JAZ USA, INC. During the early years JAZ USA faced challenges penetrating the market but with continued commitment and significant financial resources, JAZ USA today has grown to become one of the top recognized brands in the United States and is the largest market for JAZ.
New Challenges
2020
We have recently started the transition process from being merely manufacturers of wire brushes to becoming surface treatment experts. The latest rebranding of our corporate image will help us achieve our goal of being recognized worldwide for our knowledge and wide range of solutions in this field.
Still today we maintain our primary objective for continued success and lasting over time by growing in a sustainable way and maintaining a close collaborative team creating value and benefit to our employees, customers and society.
